It is relatively easier to earn Hotel points in today’s world. There exist several ways to earn these hotels’ loyalty points. However, hotel points also have an expiry date. They are not always going to be there in your Hotels Loyalty Account. You must know about hotel points’ expiry so they don’t get expires before you use them. So, here is the ultimate guide on when the Hotel Points Expires and how to extend their validity of them.

When do Marriott Bonvoy Points Expire?

Marriott Bonvoy Points expire if a member account remains inactive for 24 consecutive months. It doesn’t mean your account will be deactivated. Your Marriott accounts get deactivated after five years of inactivity.

Also, transfer of points between members or just receiving points aren’t counted as active activities. So, any earning or redeeming activity is considered an operational activity and points never expire as long as you’re doing these activities for the last twenty-four months.

If you hold a Marriott Lifetime Elite Membership account, your points never expire, even if you don’t have operational activities. It takes a lot of years and night stays to become a Marriott Lifetime Elite, so I doubt anyone would leave their account for two years just like that.

When do Club ITC Green Points Expire?

Club ITC Green points expire when the account of the member becomes dormant. An account is considered dormant if the member has not made an eligible stay for 12 consecutive months.

That means you must make one stay every 12 months to keep your points & account active. The 12 months are calculated from the last day of your stay. For Club ITC Elite members, the points never expire as long as they retain their status.

When do IHG One Rewards Points Expire?

IHG One rewards points expire if no points are earned or redeemed for 12 consecutive months. Elite members’ points will not expire till they maintain their elite status.

It is important to know here that you must make one single points-earning transaction to keep your points active. I recommend making one single-point transaction of earning or redeeming to keep all your points active.

When does World of Hyatt Points Expire?

World of Hyatt points expires if the member account remains inactive for 24 consecutive months. However, the account will remain open unless cancelled by Hyatt or the member. Once points have expired, they can’t be reinstated.

Hyatt is a bit liberal in respect of points expiry. Any transaction in your membership account related to points will keep safe all of your points from expiring. Although we don’t have a Hyatt Co-Branded card in India, if anyone has one, the points will never expire as long as the card is active.

When do Accor Reward Points Expire?

Accor Reward points have 12 months validity from the last day on which points were credited. Any single points-earning transaction will further enhance the validity of points by 365 days, as long as you keep earning Accor Points. Like Hyatt, you don’t need to stay to keep your points active. A small transfer of points from your credit card will also keep your existing points active.

Also, an Accor member account is closed if it remains inactive for six consecutive years.

Hilton Honor Points Expiry

Hilton Honor Points expire after 24 consecutive months of inactivity. Member accounts can also get closed within 24 months of inactivity. However, Hilton may keep an account active for five years without any activity. In practice, the account has been active for five years.

To keep your account & points active, you can make any points-earning activity, including transferring points from your Amex Credit Card. Members holding Hilton Co-Branded credit can continue to keep their points as long as they have points earned on their cards.

Wyndham Rewards Points Expiry

Wyndham Rewards points expiry differs from other hotels’ loyalty programs. Typically Wyndham Rewards Points expire if there are no points or stay activity in the member accounts for eighteen consecutive months.

However, even if there is an activity in the member account, the points expire after four years from the date of check-out on which these points are credited. So, there are two expiry dates. One is soft expiry, and another is hard expiry. If you have any activity in your account, your points will continue to have full four years of expiry, the hard expiry; if not, they will expire after 18 months, the soft expiry.

Taj NeuCoins Expiry

Taj membership now earns NeuCoins. These NeuCoins are worth INR 1 each. If there has not been earned or redemption of NeuCoins in the past 365 days, then all NeuCoins expire. You can use NeuCoin as you like and not compulsorily at Taj Properties. Even an order at Bigbasket for which you earn or use NeuCoin is also an eligible activity and increases the validity of coins by 365 days.

Radisson Rewards Points Expiry

Radisson reward points expire if no points-related activities exist for 24 consecutive months in a member account.

Few More Things to Know

Don’t do it if you consider making a reservation and cancelling it to keep your points active. Hotels have a better system to know when your points expire. Some hotels like Hyatt mention that such activity will be excluded from the calculation of the expiration period.

Also, it’s good to be loyal to a particular hotel brand. An elite membership with some hotels like Marriott, ITC, and IHG keeps your points from expiring.
