Earlier this year, Turkish Airlines devalued its miles&smiles program. It used to be one of the best programs to fly to Europe & USA for cheap in Business Class. Luckily, last year, I had the chance to travel Turkish Airlines business class from Madrid to Istanbul. Till today, I have not had a better meal on a flight. Plus, aircraft are maintained, and IFE is good enough. Now, Turkish Airlines is offering discounts of up to 40% on its award flights for bookings made till 2nd October 2024. How much does a Promotional Award ticket cost?
Here is the Turkish Airlines Promotional Award Chart. If you travel from Istanbul to the USA, a promotional award ticket would cost 40K miles. However, this offer will reduce the distance to 24K miles. Turkish Airlines uses a segment-based award chart, so if you connect via IST, you need to add miles for that route. For example, India to the USA with a promotional award would cost 60K miles; with this offer, you will pay 36K Miles.
Important Thing to Note
Flights from India are not eligible for this promotion. So, you will not receive any discount on the DEL/BOM-IST route. However, if you connect further, you will receive a discount from the IST flight. This issue is only applicable on flight from India. If you fly from eligible cities to India, you will get a discount of 30% or 40%.
For example, DEL-SFO with a promotional award will cost 60K miles, but this offer will cost 44K [DEL-IST 20K+IST-SFO 24K 60% of 40K Miles].
Now, if you book a one-way flight from SFO to Delhi, it will only cost 36K miles, which is 60% of 60K miles.
However, if you try to book a round trip, you will not get the return flight at 36K miles; instead, you will pay higher mileage at 44K.
This issue applies to flights to cities like Frankfurt and other cities in India. So, to save miles, it is better to book separate flights to save miles. However, you will pay the cancellation penalty on both flights separately if you are both and won’t be eligible for a stopover in Istanbul.
Here are some of the great routes.
Fly from North America to India in 36K Miles
Flying from North America to India in 36K miles is a sweet deal.
Fly from Europe in 21K to 24.5K Miles
For the award chart, Turkish Airlines has segregated Europe into two parts.
Europe1 includes Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, and Ukraine.
Whereas Europe 2 have countries Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.
So, on flying from Europe 1 country, you will pay 21K miles.
And, on flying from Europe 2 countries, you will pay 24.5K miles.
Fly from South America in 42K Miles
Award flights at 42K miles from South America are also excellent on Turkish Metal.
Bottomline
Turkish Airlines Award Discount is a great way to use unused Turkish Miles or miles that will expire soon. To make the most out of this promotion, book separate flights to & from India. Otherwise, you won’t get a discount on the Istanbul to India route
