There are many ways to earn Marriott Bonvoy Points in India. One such way is by converting Air Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points. Although this would result in a loss in value for the airmiles, there are reasons why you would want to do that. But in most cases, it would not make sense to convert Air miles to Marriott Bonvoy points.
Which airlines allow Air Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points conversion?
Currently, you can convert air miles of eight airlines into Marriott Bonvoy Points. These eight airlines are:
- Air Canada: Aeroplan [Added Recently]
- All Nippon Airways: ANA Mileage Club
- Cathay Pacific: Asia Miles
- Hawaiian Airlines: Hawaiian Miles
- Japan Airlines: JAL Mileage Bank
- Korean Air: SkyPass
- Singapore Airlines: KrisFlyer
- United Airlines: Mileage Plus
Before going into details, you should transfer your air miles to Marriott; let’s watch these airlines’ miles conversion rates.
Air Canada Aeroplan Points to Marriott Bonvoy Points
Recently, Air Canada added a feature that transfers Aeroplan points to Marriott Bonvoy in a 1:1 ratio. However, this only applies to Air Canada Aeroplan Frequent Flyer Elite members. A minimum of 500 points needs to be converted with a maximum of 100K in a day and 250K in a week.
If you are eligible, convert here.
Air Canada is promoting a status match for Marriott Titanium & Ambassador elites. These elites can get Aeroplan 25K Status (simply silver status), making it easier for them to earn more Marriott Bonvoy Points.
ANA Mileage Club Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points
ANA Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points is a tier-based conversion. For the first 20000 miles, you will receive 20000 Marriott Bonvoy Points. However, after that, the conversion will drop to a 2:1 ratio. A minimum of 10,000 miles needs to be converted, and then increments of 10,000 miles are required.
You can convert points here.
In India, ANA Mileage Club isn’t a direct transfer partner of any Indian Bank, and earning opportunities are limited.
Asia Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points
Asia Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points have a conversion ratio of 2:1. A Minimum of 2000 Asia miles need to be transferred in increments of 500. A maximum of 240000 miles can be converted into Marriott Bovoy Points annually.
In India, Asia Miles is a transfer partner of Amex, of which Marriott is also a partner. So, you probably won’t transfer your Asia Miles, which you transfer from Amex. However, Marriott is not a transfer partner of HDFC Bank, but Accor is. Accor is a common transfer partner of HDFC & Cathay Pacific. So, you can use Accor & Asia Miles as an intermediary for transferring to Marriott Account when no option is left. The whole process, though, can take eight weeks.
HawaiianMiles to Marriott Bonvoy Points
Hawaiian Airlines is a small airline. Its HawaiianMiles can be transferred to Marriott Bonvoy Points in a 2:1 ratio. You must transfer a minimum of 5000 miles with a maximum of 25000 miles monthly. This process can take up to eight weeks. Earning opportunities for HawaiianMiles are negligible in India.
JAL Mileage Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points
JAL Mileage is a transfer partner of Axis in India, and Marriott is also a partner. If you want to transfer JAL Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points, you can do so with a conversion of 1:0.75. A Minimum of 3000 miles need to be transferred.
Here are the points you can get:
JAL Miles | Marriott Points |
4000 | 3000 |
10000 | 7500 |
20000 | 15000 |
30000 | 22500 |
40000 | 30000 |
50000 | 37500 |
Axis Atlas has a 2:1 conversion for Marriott Points. You can always use ITC as an intermediary for transferring Axis Atlas miles to Marriott. However, there is a limit of 15K green points per quarter, which you can transfer. After that, JAL is the best option to convert your Axis Atlas Miles, as you can get 1.5x Miles as points instead of 0.5 points.
It may take eight weeks for points to get credited.
SkyPass to Marriott Bonvoy Points
You can transfer SkyPass Mileage once a day to Marriott Bonvouy Points. A Conversion of 2:1 applies on all transfers. A maximum of 2 Lac miles can be transferred in a day, and a Minimum of 5000 miles should be moved in increments of 1000 miles.
Earning opportunities for SkyPass are low in India.
KrisFlyer Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points
KrisFlyer Miles are valuable. I would not recommend transferring these miles to Marriott. However, if you still want to, the 2:1 conversion ratio applies. You must transfer at least 3000 miles annually, with a maximum of 180000 miles. This could also be one way to transfer your HDFC Points to Marriott.
United Mileage Plus Miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points
A United Mileage Plus Premier elite member can transfer United miles to Marriot Bonvoy Points. The best thing is that the conversion ratio is 1:1. You must transfer a minimum of 500 miles and a maximum of 1 Lac miles annually. This probably makes sense when you get a great Marriott property at a good value.

Here is the list of Airlines and conversion ratio of miles to Marriott Bonvoy Points:
- Air Canada [Elites]: 1:1
- ANA: 2:1
- Cathay Pacific: 2:1
- Hawaiian Airlines: 2:1

HDFC Points & Axis Atlas Miles Use
HDFC Points Transfer
Marriott and HDFC are not transfer partners. But if you have a massive stash of HDFC Points, you can get a good number of Marriott Points. Of the eight airlines, three are direct partners of HDFC, and two are indirect transfer partners. Air Canada, Singapore Airlines and United Airlines are direct transfer Partners, and Japan Airlines and Korean Air are indirect transfer partners via Accor.
For HDFC Cardholders, if you can get value out of Marriott, then it can be worth it. However, the ultimate transfer ratio is 2:1, and there could be rare occasions when you can get massive value from such a transfer. But transferring to top-up can be helpful.
Axis Atlas Miles Transfer
Axis Atlas Miles are transferred in a 2:1 ratio to Marriott. However, you can get a better ratio than that. The first uses Club ITC but has a lower limit of 15K points per quarter. If you still need more Marriott Points, using United would make sense when you have a Premier Plus status; otherwise, Japan Airlines is a good option.
Bottomline
Few airlines allow miles to be transferred to Marriott Bonvoy Points. In most cases, there is a conversion ratio 2:1. Air Canada & United Mileage Premier Members get a 1:1 conversion ratio. At the same time, JAL members can get a 4:3 conversion. In most cases, it doesn’t make sense to transfer, but in rare cases, you can use these airlines’ miles to transfer them.
