Should You Transfer to Asia Miles for this Promotion?

Bonus miles on the transfer of credit card points are always great. Even a 10% bonus is useful, no matter the number of miles. However, miles should not immediately be transferred to get the offer’s benefits unless you know about the program.

Asia Miles is a tricky program, and a 10% Bonus may not be sufficient to improve it as the miles requirement is high with high taxes. However, you have a nice three-month window to benefit from this program. So, do a bit of research before transferring.

Where to use Asia Miles?

Cathay Pacific is a member of the OneWorld Alliance and has a codeshare agreement with a few other airlines & its frequent flyer program is Asia Miles.

Firstly, Asia Miles is not a program for everyone as its award chart, which was recently updated, doesn’t have many sweet spots from an Indian point of view. Couple that with a transfer ratio 2:1 for Amex Credit Cards & high taxes. Here are a few ways you can use Asia Miles.

India to Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific is the only airline flying nonstop from five Indian Cities to Hong Kong. Apart from New Delhi, it is the only airline flying nonstop. So, for Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru & Hyderabad, people would also save time if you wish to travel to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific.

You will need these many miles for a round trip from any of the five cities:

  • Economy: 25000 Asia Miles
  • Premium Economy: 46000 Asia Miles
  • Business Class: 64000 Asia Miles
  • First Class: 100000 Asia Miles

I do not recommend using Asia Miles to book Business Class since you can get it cheaper at partners like Avios.

Cathay Pacific Flights

Although you can book Cathay Pacific Premium Cabins for less via Avios & other partners, Cathay Pacific has made a few award seats available to its partners in the past. So, there may be some rare travels where you can use Asia Miles.

Companion Award

You can use the Asia Miles Companion Award if you already have a Cathay Pacific Business or First Class Revenue ticket. For Example, if you travel from New Delhi to Hong Kong in a Business Class on Cathay Pacific, you book an award flight for a companion at just 24000 Asia Miles.

Round The World Award

Few programs allow you to book a round-the-world [RTW] award, and Asia Miles is one of them. You can travel 50000 miles in Business Class in 280000 Asia Miles. For comparison, Singapore Airlines also gives a round-the-world award in a business class for 280000 Krisflyer Miles—however, rules and transfer partners are different.

If you want to book an RTW award using Asia miles, you must request a form online to book one. I recommend making an itinerary, checking availability & knowing RTW rules before transferring points.

Final Thoughts

Asia Miles Transfer offer is decent; however, it is not for everyone. Since the miles requirement is high, couple that with a 2:1 conversion ratio and high taxes. However, you have three months to explore the program and get the benefits of 10% Bonus Miles.
