Are Marriott Bonvoy Points Worth Buying?
Everyone has their reason for buying hotel points. I usually don’t buy points until I’m sure I’m using them soon. Also, there could be limited opportunities to use points. Usually, you will use points where the cost to buy points, including after the bonus offer, is lower than the cost of paying for the room.
This offer allows you to buy Marriott Points at INR 0.72 per point. At the same time, I value Marriott Points at INR 0.6. So, Marriott points are a bit pricey but in a range where you can play with a choice of properties and number of nights to get this value. And, if you’re buying, ensure these are for immediate consumption or soon.
How to make the most of this offer?
If you have decided to buy points, using them for a 5-night stay will give you a good value per point since Marriott offers 5th nights free. You can also use the Marriott Tool to find the best value for your points.
Another good way is to transfer Marriott Points to Airlines. For most airlines, you can transfer in a 3:1 ratio with 5000 bonus miles on a multiple of 60000 points, which can be useful if your favourite airmiles cost more.
Airlines | Miles Received (By Trf 218.5K Points) | INR Cost Per Mile With offer | Cents Cost Per Mile With offer |
No Bonus Airlines | 72833 | 2.17 | 2.57 |
United Airlines [10K Bonus] | 92833 | 1.70 | 2.02 |
5K Bonus Airlines | 82833 | 1.90 | 2.26 |
Usually, there are offers when buying airline miles, so check if you’re buying only for transferring.

Bottomline
Buying Marriott Bonvoy Points while there are bonus offers is a good deal when you know your stay plans. Since with the offer, the cost to buy Marriott points is INR 0.72 per point, which is more than the usual INR 0.6 value per point, buying may not make sense until your bonus offer is around 50%. I would, however, advocate for a specific stay plan so you save on your next travel adventure instead of blocking your money for points you might not need.
