If you have airline elite status, hotel elite status, or a Mastercard/Visa or American Express card, you are eligible for a status match to Kenya Airways Elite Status. However, only airline elite status matches the top tier Platinum Elite Plus.

Status Match with SkyTeam Airlines

Since, Kenya Airways is member of SkyTeam alliance the status match is not available. However, you can always use SkyTeam airline alliance status to get benefits across members.

Should you apply for a Kenya Airways Status Match?

Status matching with other airlines makes sense. However, there are situations where you can use Status Match effectively. Here is when applying for the Kenya Airways Status match makes sense.

• SkyTeam Elite Plus Status: Kenya Airways Gold & Platinum Elite status is equivalent to SkyTeam Elite Plus Status, whereas Silver Elite status is equivalent to SkyTeam Elite. So, if you want to have an alliance-wide status, status matching is something you should look at.
• Lounge Access: Starting 1 April 2025, Elite Plus members will be able to access SkyTeam lounges on domestic itineraries at select lounges of Air France, China Eastern, Garuda Indonesia, Kenya Airways, KLM, SAS, Saudia, and Vietnam Airlines. Here is the list of lounges that will be available from 1 June 2025.
• One reason for a status match is having hotel elite status without airline status, with extensive travel upcoming on the SkyTeam network. As usual, you can’t get SkyTeam Elite Plus Status based on hotel status.

Bottomline

Kenya Airways’ status match is a decent promotion if you want to have a SkyTeam alliance elite status or you plan to travel extensively on Kenya Airways in the following year. If you plan to travel extensively on Kenya Airways, then Silver status is decent enough for extra baggage allowance; however, for alliance-wide benefits, Gold status is what you will need.
