How Qantas Award Charts Apply in Real Bookings
Since Qantas follows a distance-based award chart, it is relatively easy to use to find out how many Qantas points you will need to book an award flight.
Qantas and American Airlines Flights Using the Qantas Award Chart
Let us take an example of the Sydney (SYD) to Los Angeles (LAX) flight, which has a distance of 7488 miles. Both Qantas and American Airlines fly this route. That means you will pay the same Qantas points for this route.

Based on the Qantas Classic Reward Chart, this flight will fall in 7001-8400 miles and will cost 48200 for economy, 97600 for premium economy, 130100 for Business class and 195400 for First Class.

Jetstar Flights Using the Jetstar Award Chart
The JetStar, a low-cost subsidiary of Qantas, has its own award chart. Since this is a low-cost airline, the mileage requirement will be less than Qantas’ own metal, and you will have to pay for ancillary services.
Now, let us take an example of Sydney (SYD) to Bali (DPS), where JetStar covers 2781 miles.

This flight will fall in the 2401-3600 miles range and will cost 20700 for a JetStar economy and 50600 for a Business Class flight.

Emirates Flights Under Qantas vs Emirates Award Charts
Until 30 March 2026, the Qantas Classic reward chart applies to Emirates flights, and from 31 March 2026, the new Emirates Award chart applies.
Let us take an example: an Emirates flight from Dubai to London that covers 3421 miles. This flight falls in the 2401-3600 miles range.

So, until 30 March 2026, award flights you will pay 23,300 for economy awards and 68400 for business class awards.

Whereas starting on 31 March, you will pay 25700 for an economy award and 73400 for a Business Class award flight.

Partner Airline Flights Using the Partner Award Chart
For Partner airlines, including OneWorld airlines, Qantas has a separate award chart.
Let us take two examples here, Hong Kong (HKG) to London (LHR) and Amsterdam (AMS) to Singapore (SIN).
Cathay Pacific flies between Hong Kong and London, covering 5995 miles, so, based on the Award Chart, you will pay 51800 Qantas points for an economy award and 125400 for business class.
KLM flies between Amsterdam and Singapore, covering 6535 miles, which falls in the 5801-7000 miles range. You will pay 51800 for economy and 125400 for Business Class.

Pricing When Two oneworld Airlines Are Used
This is where it gets Interesting. If you are flying two OneWorld airlines your mileage requirement will be based on Segments.
For example, Let say you fly from Hong Kong to Colombo via Bengaluru, your mileage will be combination of Hong Kong to Bengaluru which is 28200 miles for Cathay Pacific and Bengaluru to Colombo for Sri Lankan Airlines which is 11500 miles that means a total of 39700 miles. Now, even if you take round trip flight mileage will be considered based on this only.
Mixed Cabins
Most people think, Qantas charges the highest cabin mileage for mixed cabin Itineraies. But that is not the case. You Qantas points requirement for a Mixed cabin award is lower of sum of the segment flown in each cabin or highest cabin class.
For example, you fly between Hong Kong to Colombo via Singapore and if you book this route completely in Business Class it will cost 92000 however, in case Hong Kong to Singapore is economy cabin, the mileage will be lower of HKG-SIN (Economy)+SIN-CMB(Business) which is 69000 or 92000.
So, you will pay 69000 for this flight.
| Route | Distance | Cabin | Qantas Points |
| HKG-SIN | 1588 | Economy | 23000 |
| SIN-CMB | 1710 | Business | 46000 |

Bottomline
Qantas Frequent Flyer award charts are distance based and vary depending on the airlines. Qantas, Jetstar, partner airlines, oneworld itineraries, and Emirates flights each follow different charts, making it essential to know these charts before booking an award.
