Indigo is India’s biggest airline and operates several daily flights. Over the years, it has grown from a low-cost carrier to offering a Business Class product. We have seen its expansion from domestic flights to several international destinations. Recently, Indigo also launched its frequent flyer program, Indigo BluChip. Here’s what we know about Indigo BluChip.

Indigo BluChip Tiers
There are three BluChip tiers which are:
- Blu 1
- Blu 2
- Blu 3
Blu 1 is the highest tier, and Blu 3 is the joining Tier. Your tier is upgraded or downgraded based on the amount spent on Indigo flights and the number of flights taken.
Indigo BluChip Tier Eligibility
- Blu 3: Joining Tier
- Blu 2: Spent INR 100K and take four flights in 12 months
- Blu 1: Spend INR 200K and take eight flights in 12 months
What constitutes spending and flights?
The amount of spending calculated only includes the base fare and surcharge charged by Indigo. It does not include any taxes or statutory charges. However, spending on ancillaries like food, Seat Select, Excess Baggage and Fast Forward is included in calculating tier eligibility.
All flights operated and marketed, including codeshare flights, are considered for tier eligibility except for flights booked by redeeming BluChips. The easiest way to know this is by seeing the Indigo ‘6E’ flight number on your boarding pass.
Validity of Tiers
Blu 3 is the joining tier, and you will remain in this tier if you do not meet the higher tier criteria. Once you reach a higher tier, it remains valid for 365 days.
For example, if you achieved the Blu 2 tier on 1st December 2024, you will remain in this tier until 30th November 2025 unless you are upgraded to the next tier.

Validity of BluChips
The validity of BluChips is checked at the end of each month and is valid for 24 months from the date of accrual. For example, if you earned any BluChips in November 2024, they will remain valid until November 2026. However, if you make any accrual or redemption activity between 24 months, your BluChips validity will be extended by 24 months. So, as long as you fly with Indigo, your BluChips do not expire.
How to earn Indigo BluChips?
You can earn Indigo BluChips with:
- Spending for Indigo flights
- Bonus BluChips for direct booking on the Indigo website & app
- Blu 2 & 1 tier Bonus of 2 BluChips per INR 100.
Retro Claim
If you have flown with Indigo in the last 90 days, you can claim BluChip on the same by logging into your account.
Use Travel Credit Cards
Indigo is promoting direct booking to earn more BluChips or use tier benefits. So, getting an Axis Atlas credit card makes sense, as it gives 10 converted edge miles for every INR 100 spent on airline or hotel spending.
What is the value of one Indigo BluChip?
One Indigo BluChip doesn’t have a value of INR 1. Its value is dynamic and changes based on factors like demand and supply. However, you should be able to get a value of INR 0.40 to INR 0.60 for one BluChip. Also, you use BluChip only for one-way flights, not roundtrip flights, so you will lose the benefit of booking a roundtrip flight.
Redeeming Indigo BluChips
You need a minimum of 500 Bluchips for redemption, and as Indigo BluChip has a value of INR 1, you can redeem these BluChips against the cost of booking a flight. You can use 100% or partial BluChips at your convenience. However, BluChips can not be used for Indigo Codeshare flights. Indigo has a codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines and Qantas.
When you can not redeem BluChips?
There are cases when or where you can’t use Indigo BluChips, which are:
- Taxes, Convenience Fees, etc.
- 6E Addons
- Codeshare flights
- Round-Trip Flights (Can only be used for one-way flights)
- Multi-City Bookings
- Senior Citizen or Student Discount flights
- Co-Brand Voucher
Co-Brand Voucher
If you have an Indigo flight voucher like one received with Indigo 6E credit cards and want to use it with BluChip, it is not possible. You can use only one of them to book an Indigo flight, not both together.
Changes & Cancellation Charges
If you want to change your Indigo flight booked with BluChip, you must pay the difference in flight price in cash, not using BluChip. Also, if you have used 100% BluChip for booking, you can’t change the booking and must cancel and rebook.
The cancellation charges will be the actual cancellation charges if you have not used the BluChip.
Nominees
You can add up to 5 Nominees for whom you can use your Tier benefits and BluChips.
6E Prime Pass
As a Blu 2 & 1 member, you get 6E Prime Passes. 6E Pass gives you a free seat, snack, and Fast Forward benefit. However, you can only use this benefit online, not at the airport, and not on codeshare flights or third-party bookings.
As a Blu 2 member, you get 20 Passes, which can be worth INR 20K, and as a Blu 1 member, you get 40 Passes, which can be worth INR 40 K. So, this is a decent benefit of being an Elite member of the Indigo frequent flyer program.
Discount on 6E Addons
As a member, you can get a discount on seats, baggage, and Fast Forward. This benefit is only available to members who have booked on the Indigo website or App. You won’t get this benefit if you have made a third-party booking.
Indigo 6E Rewards vs Indigo BluChip
Indigo 6E rewards and Indigo BluChip are two different offerings from Indigo. You can earn Indigo 6E rewards with Indigo Credit Cards, whereas BluChips can be earned when flying with Indigo. Also, Indigo Rewards have a value of INR 1, whereas BluChip’s value is dynamic.
Frequently Asked Questions?
You will only earn base and bonus tier BluChips on third-party bookings. Other benefits, like 6E Prime and discounts on add-ons, are not extended to third-party bookings. Also, you lose out on the direct booking bonus.
If you used a 6E Prime Pass or discount for your booking, this benefit will continue even if your tier changes. When benefits are used, your boarding pass will have a PRIM or FFWD code.
No, there is no blackout for BluChip redemptions.
No, codeshare flights with partner airlines are not eligible for booking with Indigo BluChip.
If a booking has been made directly with Indigo.
There is a time limit of 90 days for retro claims.

Indigo BluChip is a great frequent flyer program that will benefit many travellers. You earn 8 to 16 BluChip on every INR 100 spent. After that, you can use these BluChips for any Indigo flight on any day; however, their value can be less than INR 1. Overall, it is a decent program for most frequent travellers on Indigo.
